Frequently Asked Questions from Parents…
“Can parents sit in on lessons to provide support if needed?”
Absolutely yes! I encourage parents to participate in their child's lesson if possible. Your presence provides comfort and support to your child, and it's essential that we all work as a team to build a strong relationship and empower their musical journey.
“My son is autistic, mostly non-verbal, and unable to read, but he appears to have an interest in music. Can you teach him?”
Absolutely yes! There are many ways your son can learn despite his communication challenges. For instance, I often use colors, visuals, or other elements he might connect with for music reading instead of starting with the alphabet.
“How do you adapt your teaching methods for non-verbal students”
I adapt my teaching methods for non-verbal students by customizing all lessons based on each student's unique needs and abilities. Additionally, I create tailored teaching materials as needed to support their learning.
“How do you handle sensory sensitivities or overstimulation during lessons?”
My studio is a sensory-friendly space. I carefully set up the room with appropriate lighting, minimize distracting objects, and ensure it is unscented. I also provide fidgets and stimmy toys to help students manage sensory overwhelm. Understanding that some kids might not be ready to touch the piano or handle its sound initially due to sensory sensitivities, I ensure not to rush them and prepare alternative ways for them to gradually get comfortable with the piano.
